If you're like me... and you've bought products over the last 5 years from Nike, Adidas, and Apple... then maybe our biggest concerns shouldn't be our sensitivity over which character is on our pancake syrup, or which cartoon character is possibly ethnically insensitive.
Maybe we should be MORE concerned about US companies using "Forced Labor", AKA - REAL, modern day SLAVES, in China, to make our cheap goods.
This is one of the downfalls of being a "citizen of the world", as Obama eloquently rebranded us Americans back in 2008. It means we actually have to care about the citizens of the world. We cannot turn a blind eye when it concerns a company we love.
On the hierarchy of problems - Disney slapping a warning label on Peter Pan's offensive native American tropes (and I understand that they ARE offensive) - probably ranks just a BIT lower than ethnic slaves being forced into labor camps so that my Iphone costs $1,200 instead of $2,000.
BLOWS my mind that Disney will fire an employee for being insensitive and political on Twitter - but will film an action movie right down the street from a slave camp. Yes - Mulan was filmed in China, right down the road from an Ethnic "work & reeducation camp."
It's been about a year since I bought a pair of Nikes (which was my all time favorite brand). No more apple products might be next.
